National Park Archives - Ankor på vift

We had already traveled from the West to the East coast on Koh Lanta, but we also wanted to see the North and South part of the island. In the South we found Koh Lanta National park and in the North we found a lovely beach.

Vi hade redan åkt från väst- till östkusten på Koh Lanta, men vi ville också se den norra och södra delen av ön. I söder hittade vi Koh Lantas nationalpark och i norra delen hittade vi en härlig strand.

We drove all the way down to the South tip to see the lighthouse.

We reached the lighthouse! Drank a lot of water though. Othilia is happy!

There was an option to hike around 2 kilometer in the djungle and see animals, but the heat and the fact that Ulrika at the time was the only person allowed to carry Othilia discouraged us to hike this time around.

We took our scooter and visited one of the Northernmost beaches on Koh Lanta, Laem Kho Kwang Beach.

Othilia was skeptical towards sand when we first arrived to Koh Lanta, but over the course of days she slowly changed her mind about sand as you will see.

The water left beautiful marks in the sand. It was not all days we went to the beach, we didn’t want to expose ourselves to the sun so much.

It can be tricky with animal sanctuaries, but we found one for cats and dogs run by a Norwegian woman who works on getting her abandoned animals to be internationally adopted. We lived quite near this place so we visited the cat city one day. There is no entrance fee, but donations are most welcome.

We thought Othilia would love to visit the cats, but she was more interested in the balls (the cat’s toys) and the water fountain in the middle, so we didn’t stay so long.

Soon our days here on Koh Lanta would end for this time.

Vi åkte till nationalparken “Lagunas de Montebello” som ligger på högslätten i Chiapasprovinsen, mellan 1500 och 1800 meter över havet, precis vid gränsen till Guatemala. I nationalparken finns det 59 turkosa sjöar och barrskog som fick oss att känna oss hemma. Det fanns gott om granar, tallar och grön skog, och doften av grillad varmkorv gjorde att vi förväntade oss att se skandinaviska djur i skogsbrynet, ängsligt blickandes ut över sjön medan de släckte törsten. Vi besökte också en samling av vattenfall, las cascadas el Chiflón, och fick känna på riktigt turkost vatten. Vi har också lärt oss ett nytt ord för vattenfall, la cascada (spanska), som hamnar i vår vattenfallssamling där även engelska (waterfall) och lao (Tad) återfinns!

Vi tog en guidad tur, då vi inte vill åka själva längs de mexikanska vägarna och under vår tur så såg vi flera “vägtullar” som är rena bedrägerier, där människor sätter upp blinkande koner och håller upp ett snöre med band på, och är man ovetande turist så kanske man stannar. Vår chaufför körde bara igenom dem och det var skönt att bara sitta och se ut över den mexikanska högslätten.

We went to the”Lagunas de Montebello” National Park, which is located on the high plateau in the province of Chiapas, between 1500 and 1800 meters above sea level, right next to the border of Guatemala. The National Park has 59 turquoise lakes and evergreen forests that made us feel right at home. There were plenty of firs, pines and green forest there, and the smell of grilled hot dogs made us expect to see Scandinavian animals in the forest, anxiously gaze out over the lake while they quench their thirst. We also visited a collection of waterfalls, las cascadas el Chiflón, and got to touch magical turquoise water. We have also learned a new word for waterfall, La Cascada (Spanish), that will end up in our collection of words for waterfall, where English (waterfall) and lao (Tad) can be found!

We took a guided tour, because we do not want to go by ourselves on the Mexican roads, and during our tour we saw several “tolls” that were pure scams, where people put up flashing cones and holding up a piece of string with small flags on, and if you are an ignorant tourist, you perhaps stop when you see them. Our driver just drove through them, and it was nice to just sit and look out over the Mexican highland plateau.

Vi fick för första gången uppleva den mexikanska landsbygden i dagljus genom fönstren på vår bil som skulle ta oss nära gränsen till Guatemala! We got to experience the Mexican countryside in the daylight for the first time through the windows of our car, that would take us near the border with Guatemala!

Första stoppet på dagen var vid vattenfallen vid las Cascadas El Chiflón! The first stop of the day was at the waterfalls at las Cascadas El Chiflón!

Färgen på vattnet är magisk! The color of the water is magical!

Det var över 20 grader på dagen, som kändes som 30 grader, så vi hade det svettigt och skönt! It was over 20 degrees during the day, which felt like 30 degrees, so we had it all sweaty and warm!

Vi hittade även kottar från granarna vid Lagunas de Pojoj ! We also found fir cones from the fir trees at the Laguna de Pojoj!

Med kaffe i handen så kändes det som om vi satt hemma vid någon sjö i Sverige och väntade på att den grillade korven skulle bli klar! With coffee in our hands, it felt as if we were sitting at home at any lake in Sweden, waiting for the grilled sausage would be served!

Nästan så att man tror att man står i en skog i Sverige när man kollar på barken! Almost that you think you are in a forest in Sweden when you look at the bark!
