Varma källor, Arak och Sri Lanka! / Hot springs, Arak and Sri Lanka!

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

Lovina has offered both peace and quiet, as well as party with troubadours. We decided one day to follow the black vulcano sand beach towards Lovina (a 3-km walk) and look around in the center of Lovina. Other days have been spent in local restaurants, listening to troubadours, and one evening ended with us sharing several bottles of Arak with Kris, Vincent, Damien, Domingo and Rudi, so we did not get into bed until 4 am that night. We also rented a scooter and drove up the mountain and had a nice view of Lovina and Banjar. We took the opportunity to visit the holy hot spring in Banjar and cleansed us in the sulfur-rich “hot” water.

Our VISA is running out and there has been much thought back and forth where we should go next. In the beginning of last week, we felt that we had come up with a decision, so we woke up one morning with the intention that we would buy flight tickets to either the Philippines or Australia, but we ended up with an approved VISA application, flight tickets and accommodation in Sri Lanka . So it goes! =)

We look forward to discovering a new culture and meet interesting people there and if everything goes as we want, we will fix VISA to India in Sri Lanka and fly to South India in September. We have never planned our trip so far in the future before, but VISA to India is special, and that requires a little more planning. This is precisely why we decided to spend our last days in Bali in Ubud and fix all the paperwork required for VISA application and take new photos on us for that purpose.
We also said goodbye to Pontus nice furry beard, so now it’s 4 mm stubble and we must get used to Pontus new look (Ulrika has giggled at Pontus small head all day …)! Finally, we also want to promote Martin Moraeus blog “Farmer for real” (in Swedish). He is writing really good about the conditions of markets and the current agricultural politics!

Dolphins and tuna in Lovina!

(please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

We got tired of staying in a party town and when we came to the realisation that it was too messy for us in Kuta, we decided quite quickly to move to another place. The choice fell on Lovina which is located in the northern part of Bali. We’ve found a great and inexpensive transport company (Perama) operating throughout Bali and Lombok, and they have an online system that can be used to purchase tickets. We highly recommend them and it was Perama we went with to reach the northern coast, the bus took 4 hours and we got a simple lunch included in the ticket price when we arrived in Lovina.

We wanted to have a little vacation after a week working with our projects in Kuta, so we booked ourselves on a fishing trip and dolphin watch (Lovina is known for all the dolphins that live just by the coast). We got up at half past five in the morning to begin our journey to the high seas in the dark morning hours before the sun came up. It was an absolutely fantastic journey where the incredible starry sky gave us a faint glow in the dark so that we could see the waves before they hit the ship. The constellation Orion has never looked so detailed and we got to experience several meteorites (shooting stars) that quickly burned up in Earth’s atmosphere. Equally amazing was the black sea that became a mirror image of the beautiful starry sky every time the boat’s outrigger hit the water and brought out the terrified fluorescent algae.

We threw in our fishing lines to try to catch our first tuna just as the sun began to color the horizon blue and we sat with the fishing lines in our hands while we got to enjoy a beautiful sunrise at sea. The fishing luck was unfortunately poor, but we managed to catch a tuna during these early morning hours before we went to the dolphin’s residence. It was a very special moment when we got to follow a flock of dolphins (20-30 animals) for an hour and a half, and we got to see them play with each other and the waves in their natural element. Normally, it is a lot of boats with tourists there during the early morning hours, but we got there a bit later and then it was only three other boats there that wathced the dolphins together with us. Our recommendation is not to go out with all the other tourists early in the morning if you want to see the dolphins almost by yourself here!

We got home in time for lunch and the catch of the day was also our lunch for the day. Fried tuna that you caught yourself taste so good!
