Klippdykarna vid La Quebraba / The cliff divers at La Quebraba

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

Acapulco does not offer much historical sites, so what can you see and do here if you don’t want to lie on the beach, play golf or practice various water sports? One tip is to go to the western part of Acapulco and watch the cliff divers at La Quebraba performing their death-defying jumps from the 24 meter high cliffs. The waves are hitting the rocks and the water level varies between 1.8 and 4.8 meters, depending on how high the waves are, so the timing is extremely important for the cliff divers and it requires a lot of knowledge to be able to read the waves that are rolling into the ravine. Here, people have been jumping from the rocks for many years, but it was not until 1934 that they formed a society and began to do shows for a paying public. They have several shows  per day, starting at 1 pm and we were there in time for the first jump of the day! They also do evening performances when they jump with torches in the darkness and the rumour says that the night shows are very spectacular. You can either pay 40 pesos (approximately 2 EURO) to stand on the side of the cliff and watch as they jump or you can eat and drink in the restaurant which is right next door. However, the food is very bad there, so we really can not recommend eating there. We paid very much for a very poor buffet and fruit was the only thing Ulrika could eat, so it was very expensive watermelons for us. It is very easy to take a taxi there and most taxi drivers knows where the cliff divers are located!

Anarchapulco 2016

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

Here are our reflections from our first anarco-capitalistic conference and we will also throw in some pictures from those days too! The level of the lectures was above what we expected and it was great to have so many of our favorite people gathered in the same place. The lectures covered everything from crypto-anarchy to peaceful parenting, yoga and mushrooms, and there was two debates on the schedule. One between Lark Rose and Mark Skousen on anarchy vs. minarchy, and one between Walter Block and Mark Skousen that was supposed to involve Hayekian triangles. Unfortunately, none of the debates are worth mentioning further because they did not hold a decent level, but there were several other real highlights during the conference. You are welcome to listen to episode 84 of the freedom fax machine podcast (in Swedish) where we talk about our favorite lectures.
Our three favorites were Larken Rose, Amanda Rachwitz and Marc Victor, and you can pay $1 in bitcoin per lecture to see them here (Only Larken Rose’s lecture is public now). We were a little disappointed that Walter Block didn’t keep a higher level on his lecture and he started his lecture talking about the ABC of anarchism and assumed that no one in the audience were familiar with Austrian economics, so it was a bit boring. However, he did mention one thing that made us think and it was that anarchists who is also socialists are not anarchists but archists, because AN-archism means no rulers and archists, such as left-“anarchists” want to have their ideology rule over others and no thoughts are given to individuals who think differently and doesn’t want to live by their rules. However, there are anarcho-communists who also have the non-aggression principle as a base, ie not using force or coercion to impose an ideology on someone else, so in that case, it is obvious for us that they can call themselves anarchists! The general message that permeated the conference was a call to work together for a better world and help more people see how authorities, violence and force never will lead to a more peaceful and richer world for all!

The first day of the conference and Jeff Berwick stood on stage and welcomed everybody despite being sick. He had catched Dengue fever and was quite ill during the conference!

Larken Rose lecture was one of our favorites. He talked about how a small little lie, which is "the belief in authorities", is the one we have to fight against, and to get people to see through for us all to have a better world!

Annalkande storm av anarkister! / Approaching storm of anarchists!

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

Enjoy 🙂

We had now found an accommodation and it was time to get to know all the ancaps here in Acapulco! It was an exponential increase of anarchists which started two weeks before the conference, so there was a lot of people to meet up with. Therefore, the number of meetings and activities also intensified. Here we give you a cavalcade of pictures of what we did and the people we met during that time rather than trying to describe it in text! Enjoy 🙂

Frihetsfaxen, avsnitt 84 / Freedom fax machine, episode 84

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

Episode 84 of the Freedom fax machine has now been released, in which we are guests and we talk about the Anarchapulco conference (you can find the youtube version here). It was great to participate in this episode of the freedom fax machine and we beat the longest episode recorded with 3.5 hours! We are very pleased with the result even though the technology messed up a bit, there are short periods where the sound disappears, and we sound a little tired at the end. We do not want to redo the episode, so you just have to overlook those parts of the episode! This podcast is only in Swedish, so we will also do a recap here on the blog, which will be available in English!

Radiotystnaden är över! / The radio silence is over!

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

It has been 11 days of radio silence from our side and the reason is that we have prioritized to spend as much time as possible with amazing people and listening to lectures instead of sitting with our computers. But now the Anarchapulco conference has ended and we’ll try to get some every-day feeling for us here in Acapulco. We will try to update the blog more often in the near future to inform you about all the meetings and lectures that we have been on. We have also been guests at the “freedom fax machine” (a Swedish ancap podcast) where we talk in more detail about our experiences in Acapulco so far and about the conference. This episode will be published on Thursday at 9 am (swedish time) on this page and on youtube. We have also found a wonderful temporary accommodation here and we would like to share the story about how we ended up with a penthouse in Acapulco. It was with eager expectations that we took the bus from Puerto Escondido to Acapulco, because we had heard both good and bad things about the city before we arrived. We checked into the hotel we had booked in advance and went out to find a cozy restaurant where we could eat dinner. There, we contacted the local ancap community to announce that we now had arrived to Acapulco and it turned out that we had managed to find one of the water holes in Acapulco where the ancap’s usually met each other. Within twenty minutes Linus, Thora, Achara and Steve came to meet us. More ancaps joined and we decided to continue our discussion at Linus apartment. That was when we were introduced to the anarchist house. Here, several of those that would attend the Anarchapulco conference already lived and we found out that there was one more apartment available in the same house. After sitting and talking to half past five in the morning, we slept a few hours in Linus apartment, then we asked the landlord if he had an apartment to rent out to us. We were very fortunate to find out that the penthouse on the 10th floor was vacant! We immediately fell in love with the view and it was obvious to us that we would rent it when got to hear the low price for renting the apartment. Now we knew were we would spend the coming month!

Stilla havet ännu en gång/ The Pacific ocean yet again

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

We have again settled down by the Pacific Ocean, only this time on the east side, when we have come to the west side of Mexico. The city that we chose to go to is called Puerto Escondido and the beach where we live is called Zicatela beach, and we recommend you to add those names to your memory if you intend to explore Mexico in the future. We also recommend you to skip the Yucatan Peninsula if you have short of time; the food, the atmosphere, cities, beaches and nature, everything gets a lot better the farther west on the southern part of Mexico as you come. It is very easy to take the bus around in Mexico. There are several major bus companies offering transportation to different areas and you can go long distances with comfortable night buses. Ticket prices are considerably more expensive than Southeast Asia and it is mainly because of the very high tariffs that the Mexican government collects on the modern roads. A stretch of 600 kilometres, which takes about 12 hours, costs 500-600 pesos per person (25-30 Euros) and we could get air tickets for that kind of money in Asia. There are also buses that travel the back roads and stopping at the rural villages in some places, and perhaps we are too cautious, but we stick to the larger bus companies that run the major routes given the rumor Mexico has. You can find excellent information about bus travelling in Mexico here. The southern areas of Mexico are, however, much safer than the northern areas bordering the United States, and we use this map to determine our travel route here in Mexico. You can not buy bus tickets online if you do not have a Mexican credit card, but it is easy to check bus times online and then go to the bus station to buy tickets. It was in this way that we chose our next destination. Ulrika sat and looked at all the destinations where the buses from San Cristobal del Las Casas went to, chose those who would take us closer to Acapulco, then did research on Wikitravel about the places and now we are sitting at our favorite café and working with our new blog! We hope that you like it 🙂

Welcome to our new blog! Not much has changed on the surface of our blog, so most of the work for Ulrika has been on what is not really visible. It is fortunate that Ulrika did not know how much work it is to move a blog, otherwise she might not started this project in the first place. Many hours of learning, with a lot of frustration, but now it feels easier to play web designer and code writer. The experience has made Ulrika make a promise to give words of encouragement to people who actually work with moving and designing blogs, you are doing a great job!

A lot has happened since we last wrote a blog post that we want to share with you. Firstly, we have finally made contact with anarcho-capitalists here in Mexico and it turned out that our new friend Pete lives in San Cristobal del las Casas, so we met up for dinner and wine one of the last evenings for us in San Cristobal. It was so nice to meet a like-minded person and have sensible discussions about everything from small everyday experiences to global events. We compared Sweden and New Zealand and a lot of nodding in agreement happened when we did. It will be fun to meet again in Acapulco in a month!
Secondly, our dear news site has grown a step and now offer premium services for 5 Euro a month, so now you can support the bubb.la project entirely in a libertarian spirit based on voluntarism, unlike the socialist state media that is called SVT and SR. Bubb.la is our primary source of news about what is happening in Sweden and the world, and it is also through bubb.la that we have found other libertarian blogs and news sites. Would you like to support the project and get interesting, libertarian news in your feed or as a podcast, just follow these links: facebook, home page, podcast and premium service.
The founders of bubb.la has also moved to warmer climates and Sofia, one of the founders, also has her own blog that you should check out (it’s in swedish)! We also link to the blog to the right, Sofia Arkestål – Political refugee!
Thirdly, we have also changed our location, and exchanged warm sweaters and caps with beach and bikini, but more on that in the next post!

Krokodilspaning / Crocodile scouting

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

We have traveled by boat through the Sumidero Canyon, which is a national park that is rich in birds and impressive views! The day before we went there, we learned that the national park also would inhabit crocodiles, so it was with eager anticipation that we went out on the river that flows through the canyon and looked for crocodiles. We got to see three large crocodiles and everyone was sunbathing on the beach and it was so fun to see these attractively ugly creatures. It was also an incredible natural scenery with high mountains and rain forests that lined the river. We were trying to record a film so you could get an idea of how it looked in the valley. We had forgotten our gopro-camera, so we had to do the recordings with our usual camera this time. After the boat trip, we went to Chiapa de Corzo where the festival “Fiesta Grande de Enero” was going on, but we were a little early to see the festivities!

Sumidero Canyon:

In i värmen och kort uppdatering! / Into the heat and a short update!

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

Ulrika asked a very pertinent question on her instagram last week and the question was “How many cold days do Swedes endure before they dare to ask if they can use the fireplace?” and we can tell you that the answer is five days. Admittedly, this conclusion is drawn with just one observation, but we think that we can draw a conclusion from this experience and hope that we have learned something from this experience. We lit the fireplace, bought some food, and the evening ended with grilled sausages, marshmallows, beer and suitable music. It’s really nice to grill sausages over an open fire, so grilled sausage has become our dinner most evenings here 🙂

We have chosen to stay in San Cristobal because we like the city and our accommodation so much. We have access to the kitchen,  we can lit the fireplace during the evenings and fix things that we have long thought of. We will shortly change the address for our blog and Ulrika are in the process of migrating all texts, images, links, comments etc, and she is also updating our header for the blog, so hopefully we can put out our new address within a few days. Pontus has also caught a bug and is sick, so it’s yet another reason to remain in the same place for now!

Dags att tända en brasa, men först plocka ur all ved ur eldstaden! Time to light a fire, but first remove all the wood from the fireplace!

(Please scroll down to the orange text for the English version)

We went to the”Lagunas de Montebello” National Park, which is located on the high plateau in the province of Chiapas, between 1500 and 1800 meters above sea level, right next to the border of Guatemala. The National Park has 59 turquoise lakes and evergreen forests that made us feel right at home. There were plenty of firs, pines and green forest there, and the smell of grilled hot dogs made us expect to see Scandinavian animals in the forest, anxiously gaze out over the lake while they quench their thirst. We also visited a collection of waterfalls, las cascadas el Chiflón, and got to touch magical turquoise water. We have also learned a new word for waterfall, La Cascada (Spanish), that will end up in our collection of words for waterfall, where English (waterfall) and lao (Tad) can be found!

We took a guided tour, because we do not want to go by ourselves on the Mexican roads, and during our tour we saw several “tolls” that were pure scams, where people put up flashing cones and holding up a piece of string with small flags on, and if you are an ignorant tourist, you perhaps stop when you see them. Our driver just drove through them, and it was nice to just sit and look out over the Mexican highland plateau.

We got to experience the Mexican countryside in the daylight for the first time through the windows of our car, that would take us near the border with Guatemala!
