Paper work to enter Cambodia.

Nearly 48 hours ago the alarm clock rang at Pontus dad’s home and now we have eaten dinner in Phnom Penh and we are writing this blogpost from the rooftop of our hostel with a view over the city. Thanks Lars-Göran and Anita that you drove us to Arlanda! Here, we ate dinner at a place where we had to use mainly body language and we were served a delicious plate of fried rice with squid and seafood for $ 2 and beer for $ 1 each.

Memorable impressions from our trip:

  • Cathay Pacific (based in Hong Kong) is a very nice airline company to travel with. They had very good food and friendly staff.
  • At the airport in Hong Kong they warned people of the Ebola virus and people were asked to pay attention to various symptoms.
  • We had some concerns that it would be complicated to get into Cambodia, especially if you don’t have a ticket out of the country. However, there was no problem with this (you just leave the field empty where they asked for the departure date etc.). It was a bit of paperwork to fill out before we landed, but it was not so hard.
  • They had raised the fee for tourist VISA from 20 to 30 dollars.
  • Once through customs we took a tuk tuk for $ 9 (can be cheaper if you go a little bit outside the airport) to our first accommodation, which is a really nice little hostel outside the tourist trail.
  • On the road from the airport we saw a boy, age 10-12 years, driving his younger siblings (about 1 and 4-5 years old) on a moped in the middle of rush hour traffic.
  • Our room is simple, but nice and our hostel is located in a quiet area of an ordinary Cambodian neighborhood.
  • We have a bat that lives on our rooftop.
